The Hills Are Alive…
Remember my 2.9 Mile 5k on Saturday – and the killer hills?!?! Well today hills were in my Half Marathon training program so I decided to hit those hill again. Today’s workout called for 3-4 longer hills (400-600 yards long) at a 5k-10k pace.Â
P.S. The Sound of Music is one of my favorite movies. As a kid, I probably watched the movie 100 times.
Before driving to my doom hills, I snacked on a Fig Newman – I have missed these!
Check out these hills – I wasn’t lying.Â
This hill I ran up once
And this hill I was crazy to run up twice
I only ran 1.5 miles this morning but my legs were hurtin!
I knew driving to my running location was going to take some time – me and time in the morning are not exactly friends. So last night, I prepared my breakfast to bring to work.Â
I put some frozen blueberries in a bowl and in a separate container, packed some cereal – Cascadian Farm Multi Grain Squares, Cheerios and Quaker Oatmeal Squares.Â
I also poured some Rice Milk into an old jelly jar and set out a banana to add to my blueberries.Â
Don’t forget your silverware and cloth napkin – plastic silverware is so wasteful.Â
Packing reusable silverware brings me to something new….Think About It/Take Action Tuesday. I really enjoyed Simple Changes September but now I feel I am losing the greener aspect of my blog again. I hope to provide you with something to either think about or do something about every Tuesday.Â
According to this website,
If we stop using disposable cutlery, cups and lunchboxes, we can reduce waste including polystyrofoam with a weight equivalent to 17 minibuses every day.
In dining outside or ordering a takeaway, you will receive all kinds of disposable cutlery, including plastic forks and knives and wooden chopsticks, and other accessories such as tissue, chopstick covers and plastic bags. Most disposable cutlery is made of plastic; the production, transportation and disposal of which releases carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. The manufacturing of wooden chopsticks and tissues also consumes large amount of wood. When ordering your meals, try refusing disposable cutlery.
Do you eat your breakfast at home or in the office? If you eat a meal at work, do you bring your own silverware?Â

AHHH those hills are torture!!!
I eat breakfast at home. But I am trying harder to bring my tupperware and reuse my ziplock baggies as much as i can
Great job on those hills girl! You’re killing your running program!
I keep silverware in my desk drawer at work and just wash them in the sink here. I agree that it’s wasteful to use plastic utensils. When my boyfriend and I go on hikes, we bring silverware from the house then as well.
I DO bring my own silverware, for the exact reasons you mention. I do, however, also use paper napkins. I need to buy some cloth napkins tha tI can just wash, it’s a great idea and a great way to help our planet.
Those hills look like torture to me! I wonder how well I would do…..it’s been so long since I’ve had to run hills! high school memories…
I used to eat every meal at home until I moved further away from my office. Now I eat lunch at work and I TRY to use silverware, plates, bowls that I can wash. But not always.
I need to be better about that.
I LOVE the Sound of Music! I swear I wanted to be one of the Von Trapp kids when I was younger. Now I just want to go to Austria and visit sites where they filmed!
I keep meaning to take pictures of a couple of my hills on my running route. Brutal!
I have a couple of plastic spoons/forks, but I’ve had them and reused them for years! I never throw them out, just wash and reuse. I’m afraid of losing my nice silverware.
I love the Sound of Music. Such a great show/movie!
So long, farewell…..
@Shannon – you should – I feel proud looking at those hills I ran up this morning.
Good idea to reuse plastic silverware so you don’t lose the good stuff…maybe I will do that.
So long, farewell was my favorite part of the movie!
Hi Melissa – I wish I could eat every meal at home. I keep a mug in my office that I just wash every morning – I drink my tea from it.
I would love to go to Austria – it looks so beautiful!
