A Tale of Two Juices

by Heather on September 6, 2009

This morning I had a change of plans.  I was supposed to go running this morning but woke up:

1.  Starving

2.  With a nasty crick in my back/neck that almost made me nauseous

After some discussions with Matt (who was also supposed to go for a run), we decided to postpone our run until tomorrow.

We got to work on some breakfast – French Toast

To make the whole wheat french toast I combined

  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg white
  • 1/2 cup skim milk
  • vanilla paste
  • little sugar (maybe 1 teaspoon)

This made four BIG pieces of french toast.

While I was working on the french toast, Matt got to work on the 1st of two juices.  In the juicer went:

  • 1 pineapple
  • 3 peaches
  • 4 kiwis

This juice was delicious – very frothy and smooth – the pineapple overpowered the other two flavors (the kiwis were very tart and the pineapple very sweet – I think the pineapple cancelled the kiwi out).  Every once in a while, you got a hint of peach…

Then I cleaned out the fridge a little and realized these grapes were on their last leg – so I ate them.

Matt got to work on his second juice of the day.  He found this recipe in the Juicing Bible for Cabbage Cocktail.  In the juicer went:

  • Brussel Sprouts (in place of cabbage)
  • 2 stalks celery
  • 2 carrots
  • garlic (2 cloves)
  • 3 sprigs parsley
  • 2 sprigs dill
  • 2 beets
  • 2 apples

It smelled NASTY!

But fortunately tasted better then it smelled.  There was no particular vegetable that popped in the juice except for the garlic – that was quite the aftertaste.  I had probably 6-7 sips of this juice before the garlic got the best of me.  Surprisingly, both Matt and I agreed we would make this juice again.

I’ve got some laundry that needs to be put in the dryer – I think Matt and I are going to have a pj day today – no leaving the house and some time spent relaxing on the couch.  We both need it.

The cocktail sounds interesting. I can’t imagine what drinking garlic would be like. I’ll try anything once though :)
Enjoy your rest!

Mmm – french toast!! I could go for some of that right about now… I don’t have any good bread though.

I’m loving hearing about all your juice combos!

Hi Elizabeth – we don’t always have bread in the house either but I was able to snag a loaf from our concert dressing room the other night – the band never touched it! What better use for it then French Toast!

We are really enjoying our juicer – definitely trying new things.
