Today’s Simple Changes September step will be to take my shoes off at the door. Sounds kinda odd? How is that green?
Well according to the Door Mat Study, taking your shoes off at the front door cuts lead dust in your home by 60% (lead-contaminated soil from outdoors leads to allergy problems).
Furthermore, according to Ideal Bite, removing your sneakers keeps 85% of the dirt you may bring in from the outside out of your home. You know what that means…less dirt = less cleaning = less use of energy using machines like the vacuum. Also if your home has hardwood floors or tile, you will use less chemicals to get your floor clean.
Less cleaning for me is a bonus. Cleaning is not my favorite thing to do.
Taking my shoes off at the door is simple. Bare feet (or socks in my case) are more comfortable anyways!
Updates: This morning I started my shower timer when I turned the water on to warm up. This added 2 minutes to my shower. Wow. I really need to cut my shower down. My goal is to cut down 1 minute a day until I reach 8 minutes. This will be a challenge.
Taking a look at the calendar, I think things are going well!
Who else wants to leave their shoes at the door?
