One of my Favorite Races

by Heather on September 25, 2010

Matt and I – plus my boss Jim – ran the Susan Komen 5k race in Boston this morning.  The three of us were all pretty tired this morning after being at work until close to 10 pm last night – and a 5 am wake up call.  We made it into Boston for the race

IMG_7387 It was hot and humid!

IMG_7390The race is one of my favorite races and it is the 3rd time I have run it.  This year my pace was a little slower than last year but I was happy with my finishing time.  The course this year had a lot of short block sections with turn arounds – it was difficult to navigate the short turns.

After Matt and I returned home, we showered and then I passed out for what I anticipated to be a short nap – but turned into 4 hours.  My body must have needed that sleep!  We ended up skipping lunch and going for an early dinner – I hadn’t had anything to eat since the bagel I ate around 10 am after the race!

Since we skipped our go out to breakfast meal this morning, we went out to dinner at Stoneforge Tavern

IMG_7391We were both STARVING so we started with the Portabella mushroom stuffed with lobster salad and topped with melted cheddar cheese.

IMG_7392What a delicious appetizer – the mushrooms were perfectly cooked and the lobster meat was not tough – which happens a lot when reheated.  I loved the mushroom and lobster combo!

Next up – house salad.  Kinda disappointing

IMG_7394Finally – my entree – Pan Seared Scallops with a side of steamed broccoli

Lacking in some presentation…

IMG_7396but tasty nonetheless.  These scallops were perfectly cooked and just minimally seasoned – the way I like them.

Plus the broccoli of course

IMG_7397This broccoli could have used another 2 minutes in the steamer – it was a little too crunchy still.

After dinner we went to Walmart for our groceries – did we accomplish our $150 total grocery bill for the month?!?

Congrats on the race! I was thinking of running that but didn’t want to run two races in a month. Next year!

That house salad is lame!

I didnt’ know you were running in this race too! I wish I had, we could’ve met up :( Oh well. Great job! It’s my favorite race too :)

I’ve never had a good meal at Stoneforge. I think that place is all hype.
