Late yesterday afternoon I realized I had both a 9:30 am meeting and a need to run 5 miles before work because Wednesday is supposed to be crappy weather here in New England. Sounds lovely doesn’t it!?!
Sooo…running 5 miles in the morning + 9:30 am meeting do not mix well with me. It was necessary for me to prepare as much as I could the night before. Here was my check-list:
- Prepare clothes to wear to work and put in bathroom
- Take out running clothes and put in bathroom
- Leave out Garmin, Road ID, and IPOD, hat and gloves
- Pack Breakfast to take to work.
My packed breakfast required some further culinary preparation:
- slice Cracker Barrel 2% Reduced Fat Cheddar Cheese
- Hard Boil 2 Eggs and separate whites from yolks (I hate the yolks!)
- Pack some Back to Nature Crispy Wheat Crackers
- Pack some Grapes/Clementine
Look at this breakfast spread
It sounds kinda odd doesn’t it? Well while attempting to catch up on my Empire State Building size magazine stack, I read about this Power Breakfast plate in the September Fitness Magazine – it intrigued me and I thought it was a perfect breakfast to try on a day like today.
Then I woke up this morning to find the temperature was much lower than I had secretly crossed my fingers for:
By my expert calculations, I needed to be out the door by 6:30 am – it was still a little dark AND feels like 22 degrees out there?!?
Instead I decided to take my extra “I’m up so early in the morning, let me get to work early and get some things done so I can free up a bit of my afternoon.” Brilliant. It is supposed to get up to 42 degrees so I can run in some slightly warmer than sub-Arctic temperatures.
I am still going to bring my breakfast to work so I can get a head start on some things. Perfect!
This change of plans may be working out for the better. Now must go be productive.

Good call on the run. I just can’t run when it’s that cold. It hurts my lungs to breath in that cold air! This afternoon should be better.
Hi Shannon – I hope this afternoon will be better – it is supposed to be 42 degrees…
I agree with Shannon, cold air makes it harder for me to breathe, that’s why I run inside
About the eggplant – all I did was slice it, pressed it for a few minutes between paper towels to get some of the bitterness out, then grilled them on the foreman grill for a few minutes. Simple and quick!
Thanks Julie for the Eggplant tip – I have never grilled it on our panini maker (we got rid of the George Foreman) – maybe I should try that!
I’m all about planning ahead, and eating breakfast at work if need be (or in the car!). Planning ahead the night before is so key for me. I have no ability to plan in the morning, I am all about my coffee, brushing my teeth, doing my face and hair, and getting out the door!
I hope the weather gets better for you, but I’m not holding my breath! I hear it’s snowing just about EVERYWHERE this week! We even have school delays (although they are due to fog….)
Thanks Gina – I try to be all about planning but sometimes it falls by the wayside. This morning was so smooth though – hopefully it will motivate me to spend the extra few minutes at night to get ready for the next day.
It has been so cold here in the North East! We had our first snow in Philly on Saturday!
We had snow on Saturday too!
I’m inside for the winter runs. Good luck!
Hi Melissa – I think I will be inside for more runs that I like.
You are a brave lady! Keep up those runs! And, that looks like a fab power breakfast. I just signed up for a run too–so soon I’ll need to start hitting the pavement … hardcore!
Hi Corinne – What did you sign up for? I’m always looking for new races to run!
Wow, I am impressed at your prep work before an early morning run.
I don’t like the forecast. I will be PISSED if my heat isn’t working for the terrible weather tomorrow.
