Instead of posting my typical lunch pics (nothing interesting was consumed today), I have decided to do a race recap from Saturday (and also my Simple Changes September from that day).
On Saturday, Matt and I both ran the Susan Komen 5k race in Boston. This race is special to me because it was the first 5k I ever ran. A lifelong goal of mine to complete a 5k, I ran this race last year in 34:11 (they did not have nettime results – this was my guntime).
Before heading into Boston, I had a whole wheat bagel with soynut butter and banana slices
This year, I ran this race with the hope of breaking my previous 5k record time of 29:30 set last December. My goal – what I thought was a reach – was 28:00 minutes. I started at the back of the 9 minute mile pace because I didn’t think I could beat a 9 minute mile but I did even better then that – my time 27:13 – an 8:46 minute mile. I was amazed at my results. The course was amazingly flat (which definitely helped me out). I had such a great time running it – I hope to do it again next year
This year, Matt decided to run as well. I am so proud of him – he did such a great job (and even had some fun with it).
A picture of us before the run
I look a little sleepy!

Afterwards, Matt and I celebrated our accomplishments at Qdoba – which just happens to be one of Matt’s favorite places. I got the Taco Salad (no dressing) with guacamole. I had black beans and no meat!
September 26, 2009: Say goodbye to dryer sheets
I have always been a fan of
But I’m making a big move to
Who knew vinegar was a natural fabric softener? According to this website, you can add 1/2 a cup of vinegar to the final rinse cycle (hence the reason I add it in the Downey ball) and the vinegar will act as a fabric softener.
I hope to dramatically reduce my use of dryer sheets and save the few I have remaining for when it gets really dry out (even then, I will continue to dryer sheets a few times before tossing them).
Have you ever tried vinegar as a fabric softener?

Hmm. The vinegar is going to act as a fabric softener, but would it lead to the clothes wearing out faster since they’re being exposed to a weak acid? Also, the smell?
I’ve never heard of this, but would love to hear more.
Hey Alex – I never thought of vinegar wearing out clothes faster – I need to research this some more.
I will say that my clothes do not smell of vinegar – I was also quite skeptical of smelling like a salad but no wories about that!
Congrats on the 5K PR! Always exciting.
How tall is Matt? You look so tiny next to him!
Hi Susan – thanks for the congratulations! Matt is almost an entire foot taller then me – so I am tiny next to him!
I ran this race too! It was fun! I completely forgot you had commented you were running it. I apologize. We could’ve met up
Would you be interested in a blogger meet up later this month?
Hi Melissa – I forgot that you were running it too! I would love a blogger get together later this month – any ideas for a date?
