I must admit – I have an irrational fear of Tempeh. In the supermarket, I have picked it up countless times and always put it back. It scared me like tofu scares me. Friday night I decided my fear was irrational and decided to bite the bullet – tempeh went in my cart.
I’ve seen many people put tempeh on a sandwich – Kath, Jenna, Allie… Gina has had it in stir-fry. Would these ladies steer me in the wrong direction? No.
Take that tempeh – I’ve conquered my irrational fear.
Still being the scardey cat, I decided to try tempeh on a sandwich with all my favorite fixins – swiss cheese, lettuce and tomato (both from farmer’s market) and avocado (mashed with a little lemon juice)
I did try a little bite of the tempeh before I committed it to a sandwich – guess what – tastes like edamame. Probably because it is mostly soybeans. I love edamame so I was very excited for my sandwich.
I only ate half my sandwich – it was so filling. I will probably save the rest for dinner. The tempeh was mild flavored so it was overpowered by the rest of the toppings – I cannot wait to try it in other sandwiches and dishes…I’m thinking tacos, marinara sauce, stir fry…
Tempeh you will find yourself in my shopping cart again sometime soon.

I’ve never tried tempeh but I have to say that sandwich looks DELICIOUS!
The first time I tried tempeh Iwasn’t too crazy about it but I am craving it like a mad lately. It is definitely superb with avocado. Glad you put your fears aside and found something nutritious to add to your shopping cart
Hi! I have always been uninterested or unwilling to try tempeh but that looks good! All about trying new things
Mmm Tempeh!
I love to make Sloppy Joes with it! I haven’t tried it in sammies yet–Or stir fry! Those sound like good ideas to me!
So glad that you enjoyed tempeh and conquered your fear. I had a fear of tofu for a long time but now I like tofu and tempeh, and actually I haven’t had either in awhile so I need to get on that!
