Thanksgiving Sunday

by Heather on November 22, 2009

My favorite part of Thanksgiving is the leftovers but in order to get leftovers, you need to have them for the first time – which is what we had for dinner tonight!

November 22, 2009 013Check out my plate – Turkey, Gouda Mashed potatoes, Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Apples, and cranberry sauce.  There was also stuffing and gravy both of which I am not really a fan of.

Both the mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts recipes were new – and both worthy of repeating.  I will say, the Brussels sprouts were a little dry but I think it was because I didn’t add enough apple cider and olive oil to the pan.  The mashed potatoes were out of this world – the gouda, bacon and scallions added texture and flavors that turned normal mashed potatoes into a special treat.  We did lighten this recipe a bit by using reduced fat sour cream, and skim milk.  We also used regular gouda cheese as opposed to smoked – I’m not a big fan of smokey flavors.

Over the next few days, you will definitely see some more Turkey – if you noticed, I didn’t eat that much.  I’m saving it for turkey leftovers…the best part of Thanksgiving.

What is your favorite dish at Thanksgiving?

I think Thanksgiving leftovers are even better than the actual meal!

I think my mom’s creamed onions are my favorite dish on our table.
