After having success with tofu in our dumplings a few weeks ago, I decided to be brave and try to make tacos using tofu.
I decided to crumble the tofu to resemble ground beef; to a bowl of crumbled tofu, I added one packet of taco seasoning and let it sit while I took a quick shower.
I then “browned” the tofu in a skillet for about 7 minutes while Matt cooked up his chicken.
To assemble my taco, I used one Flat Out Wrap (which I cut in half to make two tacos – those wraps are huge). I added some sour cream, diced tomatoes, Herb Salad mix, avocado, and reduced fat cheddar cheese.
Ummm…tofu tacos are not so much. Even with the spice packet, the tofu had no flavor. I ended up dumping some salsa on them and these tacos were slightly better…lets just say, the tofu ended up in the trash. I hate to throw food away, but I knew I wouldn’t eat the rest.
Sadly, I had high hopes for these tacos and the tofu.
Has anyone successfully made tacos with tofu?

I have yet to even cook tofu!!! I had it once in Thai food and liked it, though!
I think tempeh would work better!
I’m sorry the tacos didn’t really work. It was a good idea though!
I know I already mentioned it, but I’m not going to be able to commit to the meet up on the 6th because of my mom’s surgery. Figure…. it’s the one weekend in all of Jan/Feb when I am out of town.
Hi! Stumbled across your site. Very cute. I have had lots of luck cooking tofu tacos. Tofu is a very flavorless ingredient. It needs lots of doctoring. I make mine with kidney beans, onion, taco seasoning and taco sauce. First you crumble the tofu, make sure it’s very well drained. (this gets a better consistancy) Put oil in your skillet, with 1/2 chopped red onion. Sautee over medium till soft. Then add in tofu and beans. I make my own taco seasoning but you need ALOT of it. Then pour on a little bit of taco sauce. cook on medium till it’s pretty dense then switch to medium low and let it simmer for at least 15 minutes. I pan fry my tortillas just a little to get a little bit of a crunch on them. I have this at least twice a month. Really good! You should give it a second try!!! Good luck
