After attending the Healthy Living Summit in August, I decided one of my health goals for this year was to try yoga – I was struggling with how I was going to do this until I received an email last week from the Health and Wellness office on campus who was offering 5 yoga classes for $25 – but for only 20 people. I was fortunately able to get in the class – the waitlist is about a mile long.
Tonight was the first class and I was beyond excited and nervous at the same time. Turns out only one person in the class had ever taken yoga before. My nerves were calmed.
I enjoyed the class – I definitely felt some good stretching – but have trouble with all the breathing. I know it will help me relax – something I have lots of trouble with – I cannot relax. I have mixed feelings about yoga but am looking forward to the next 4 weeks – my mind is open and ready to try anything.
On to eats…
This afternoon I snacked on an apple with a crumbled Cracker Barrel 2% cheddar cheese stick.
I had dinner a little before 6 pm – a Soy nut butter and Jelly Sandwich on a Pepperidge Farm Whole Wheat Deli Flat
After yoga, I came home and had some Chocolate Milk. MMMM…what a great way to end the day.
Like my new moo cow glass?
Updates: Today I took a 12 minute shower! Last night computer was off and today when I got home, shoes were left by the door. Unfortunately I didn’t have any time today to learn more about environmental issues. I had a packed day at work and got home late tonight (to still have to unload the dishwasher, iron clothes for tomorrow, make breakfast, etc). Tomorrow I have an earlier night so I will make up for it! If you notice, I haven’t had meat since September 2nd.
Alas, onto today:
September 8, 2009: Reduce Paper Napkin Usage
I have already made the commitment to using cloth napkins at home. However, I will admit, when dining out our in the school cafeteria, I am a MULTIPLE napkin user. This needs to change. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council (http://www.nrdc.org/land/forests/gtissue.asp) website, If every household in the United States replaced just one package of virgin fiber napkins (250 count) with 100% recycled ones, we could save 1 million trees. That is quite a statement. I am going to commit to using only 2 paper napkins when out or in the school cafeteria and always using cloth napkins at home. Imagine if everyone used cloth napkins all the time? Small changes can make a big difference.
Lets review the calendar!
Is anyone else making simple changes to their lifestyle?

I love all of the little changes you’re making. You’re giving me some great ideas.
I need to get myself to practice yoga. My muscles would thank me and, if I could get handle on how to breath properly, it would be a good stress reliever too.
Thanks Shannon – I hope yoga helps me relieve some stress – I carry A LOT of stress in my back and neck!
Hello, I tried yoga about a few months ago. I did enjoy the stretching part but I too have problems relaxing….but I know I must. I think yoga may just be a little too still for me. I’m trying to find somehting in the middle, maybe i’ll try pilates next ?
Hi Allison – I agree with your thoughts on yoga. I did pilates a few years ago and boy was that a workout – let me know if you find a good place to do it in the area!
